Course Speakers:

Dr. Mandy Meyer, PhD
Dr. Mandy Meyer is a fun-loving faculty member who thrives on learning.  She earned her B.S. at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, in biology with a minor in chemistry.  She obtained her PhD at the University of North Dakota from the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology.  Her current areas of interest include but are not limited to human anatomy, neuroscience, neuromusculoskeletal challenges, brain and spinal cord injuries, chronic disorders (esp. diabetes), OT in schools, community outreach programs (e.g., 4-H, FFA), outdoor mental and physical wellness and rehabilitation programs, and rural life.  In her spare time, she raises two daughters and helps hold down their hobby farm of goats, sheep, donkeys, ducks, and a variety of household animals.  She additionally enjoys cooking, baking, camping, gardening, hunting, and other recreational pursuits.

Dr. Gary Schindler, PT, DPT, PhD, OCS, SCS, ATC
Dr. Gary Schindler is a Professor of Physical Therapy and Director of Physical Therapy Residency Programs.  He is an ABPTS Board Certified Orthopaedic Specialist and Sports Specialist.  He is a graduate of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Fellowship in Educational Leadership (2022).  He received his BA in Athletic Training from the University of North Dakota; his MSPT from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse; his DPT from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professionals; and his PhD in Teaching and Learning from UND.  Dr. Schindler currently serves as the program Director for UND's Sports Physical Therapy and Faculty Residencies and is an Emergency Response for the Athlete Instructor via Cogent Steps.  Dr. Schindler was appointed UND's Faculty Athletic Representative in 2022, currently serves as the Treasurer for the APTA of North Dakota; and is a site reviewer for the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE).  Dr. Schindler practices as a physical therapist and certified athletic training, PRN, in an orthopaedic private practice.  Teaching areas include orthopaedic, sports medicine, anatomy, and therapeutic agents.  Research interests include leadership development, sports medicine, orthopaedics, and anatomy.

Dr. Nicholas Holkup, PT, DPT, CCS
Dr. Nicholas Holkup is an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy.  Nick obtained his DPT degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences.  Nick has a clinical background in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient and administration.  He is a member of the APTA, including the Acute Care and Cardiovascular and Pulmonary sections and is a Level II APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor.  Nick is also a board-certified clinical specialist in cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy.  Nick is pursuing an academic PhD in Education, Health & Behavior Sciences with a specialization in Kinesiology.  Areas of interest and research include cardiac and pulmonary interventions, acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, and many more.  Nick is currently helping teach in cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy, anatomy and biomechanics, case application, differential diagnosis, along with assisting in pro-bono clinic another areas of departmental need.

Dr. Patrick Carr, PhD
Dr. Patrick Carr is Associate Dean for Medical Curriculum.  His specialties include Lead Education Resources in support of academic programs.  He oversees the implementation of the medical curriculum and advises and supports the Undergraduate Medical Education and related committees.  he is Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences and instructor of gross anatomy for medical students.
